Abstract

557,128. Electron-oscillators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 2, 1941, No. 5720. Convention date, July 13, 1940. [Class 39 (i)] Frequency multipliers consist of a resonant circuit, which may be of the type comprising a closed chamber 12 with grids 13, 14 acting to velocity modulate a cathode-ray beam from a source 10, and a second resonant circuit comprising a closed chamber 20 and grids 23, 24 for extracting energy from the modulated beam, the second circuit being tuned to a frequency which is harmonically related to the frequency of the first, for example, the third harmonic thereof. Energy at the fundamental frequency is supplied by the line 16 and loop 16a ; and the output is applied to its useful purpose over the line 26. Alternatively, the fundamental oscillations may be produced in a single apparatus consisting of two closed resonant chambers which are back coupled, in combination with an output circuit of harmonically related frequency. A collecting electrode 31 may be provided in a separate compartment 30, or the second grid 24 in the output chamber may function as collector.
