Abstract

584,642. Valve generating and modulating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., LEVY, M. M., and RATTUE, E. A. Jan. 15, 1945, No. 1217. [Class 40 (v)] Tone-modulated carrier waves are generated by means of a multi-vibrator arranged to generate regularly repeated pulses, and to one valve of which an oscillatory circuit is so connected that the carrier waves produced are modulated with the pulses. The valves 1, 2 operate as a multi-vibrator by the crossconnection of the electrodes 1, 7 and 3, 9, through the condensers 10, 11 and resistances 13, 15 and 14, 16 respectively. The valve 1 is provided with a biassing resistance 29 and condenser 30, and its grid 3 and anode 6 are connected in the oscillator circuit comprising the coil 20 and condenser 21 and series-connected piezo-electric crystal 22. H.F. oscillations are blocked from the multi-vibrator circuit by the choke 12 and the condensers 27, 28, and from the H.T. line by means of the choke 23 and condenser 26. The width of the modulating pulses may be adjusted by suitable selection of the coupling elements 10, 13, 15 and 11, 14, 16 respectively. The generator is keyed by means of the key 17 in the H.T. positive line, which is provided with a keyclick filter 19.
