Abstract
600,188. Valve modulating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 10, 1943, No. 20749. Convention date, Jan. 12, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] A circuit for transmitting radio-frequency pulses and for matching the impedance of the pulse source to that of the wave generator makes use of a variable impedance element in the cathode circuit of the wave generator. The pulse source may comprise a pair of parallelconnected valves 10, 11 having coupled coils L1, L2 in their grid and plate circuits and a timing-circuit 12, 13, 14 in its cathode lead. High-voltage pulses created across the coil L2 are synchronized by control voltages applied through condenser 17 to the grids, and are fed to the anode circuit of the push-pull connected carrier generators 19, 20. The anode; grid and cathode circuits of this generator are tuned by balanced line structures 22, 23, 24 and a grid leak 28 of relatively low resistance is provided. The apparent impedance of the generator is adjusted by variation of a resistance or impedance 29 in the cathode circuit of both tubes 19, 20 until the generator impedance matches that of the impulse source, the correct adjustment giving maximum output from the carrier generator. Specification 590,480 is referred to.
