Abstract
604,582. Valve generating and frequency modulating circuits ; aerials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 14, 1945, No. 33903. Convention date, April 9. [Classes 40 (v), 40 (vi) and 40 (vii)] A combined oscillation generator and aerial system comprises a grounded grid oscillator with the anode circuit coupled to the cathode circuit by a feedback loop including the aerial. Valve 1 feeds over tuned circuit 4, 5 the centre tap of transformer 7, energy passing along and being radiated from the parallel wire aerial 8, 9 to the transformer 10 which presents the surge impedance to the line. The current flowing in the secondary of transformer 10 induces a voltage in the primary which travels back to transformer 7 without appreciable loss since the potentials on the two wires 8, 9 are out of phase, the secondary voltage being applied to the cathode of valve 1 to maintain oscillation. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) compensating capacitors are included in the lines 8, 9 to make the velocity of the propagation of the current more nearly equal to the radiated wave velocity. The feedback from the secondary of transformer 10 also includes an adjustable artificial line. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the effective inductance of the transformer 18 is varied by applying a signal to the valve 42 to vary its impedance which shunts the secondary, thus frequency modulating the oscillations. Specification 585,746 is referred to.
