Abstract

585,746. Valve generating circuits; aerials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 20, 1944, No. 20346. Convention date, Jan. 5. [Class 40 (v)] In a combined oscillator and rhombic aerial system, a feed-back circuit between the anodecathode and grid-cathode circuits of the valve includes the conductors of the rhombic. The oscillator valve 1, tuned by inductance 9 and condenser 10, feeds over a coupling coil and transmission line 13 the rhombic aerial 14. The remote end feeds through the transmission line 15 and artificial line 15<1> a coil 21 coupled to the cathode isolating coils 24, 25 to maintain the circuit in oscillation. The main tuning control is variable condenser 10, the adjustment of the artificial line 15<1> giving a fine control. The grid of valve 1 is held effectively at earth potential by the condenser 8. When employed as a jamming transmitter, contact arm 30 is rotated in synchronism with condenser 10 and the coupling of the coils comprising the artificial line 15'. By this means, all frequencies in the band are radiated, except those corresponding to the position of condenser 10 when arm 30 is in the gap between contacts 31, the breaking of the cathode circuit causing valve 1 to cease oscillating. The frequency of oscillation may also be adjusted by changing the lengths of the transmission lines, or by coupling a tuned circuit to one of the lines or by inserting a dielectric between the conductors comprising the line. The resonant anode circuit may consist of a short-circuited line, the transmission line 13' being coupled by condensers. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), valve 1 is connected in a neutralized circuit. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the valve 1 operates as a power amplifier stage, driven by a crystal-controlled oscillator, the feed-back being insufficient for self-oscillation.
