Abstract

640,899. Electric resonators. SPERRY CORPORATION. Oct. 9, 1942, No. 20100/44. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1941. Divided out of 640,895, [Group XL (a)]. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] A reflex velocity-modulated frequency multiplier comprises a resonator 215, Fig. 8, shaped so as to be capable of oscillating simultaneously at a fundamental frequency and at an odd harmonic thereof and separate tuning means, such as paddles 229, 231. are provided for tuning each frequency. It is shown that positions can be found at which movement of a tuning paddle will affect one frequency without affecting the other.. An electron beam maintains oscillations of both frequencies in the resonator (see Group XL (a)). Coupling loops 258, 249 are disposed so as to couple with the fundamental and harmonic fields respectively. A harmonic filter 253, comprising a resonator tuned to the harmonic frequency and thus rejecting the fundamental, is provided in the circuit 251 from loop 249. Another form of filter comprises a stub line 259, Fig. 9, having a central conductor in three sections, sections 261, 265 being narrow and for example one-twelfth of the fundamental wavelength, while middle section 263 is thicker and one-quarter of a wavelength. It is shown that this line is approximately a half-wave short-circuit for the fundamental while being a high-impedance line of one and a quarter wavelengths at the third harmonic.
