Abstract

553,265. Annealing; zinc alloy. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and NORTH, J. D. Nov. 29, 1939, Nos. 31077/39 and 1197/40. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Sheet steel articles such as corrugated parts of aircraft, are simultaneously formed and hardened, by heating the parts to a temperature above the upper critical limit and pressing them between cold, massive, highly heat-conducting dies. The dies may be of zinc or zinc lead alloy coated as by electrodeposition with a thin layer of metal such as copper. The dies may be made from an alloy containing 94 per cent. zinc and 6 copper or steel dies may be employed. The shaping may be effected in two or more stages with intermediate re-heating and the work is lubricated as by oil containing graphite or ground micaceous iron.
