Abstract

540,715. Alloys; annealing. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 8 1941, No. 4653. Convention date, April 12, 1940. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] A copper alloy consists of copper with 0.1-3 per cent. of tin. and 0.1-3 per cent. of cobalt, and is precipitation hardened and may be cold worked. The hardening may. be effected by heating the alloy at about 950‹C. for 1 hour, quenching, and reheating for about 2 hours at 550 or 575‹C. The cold working may effect a reduction of about 35 per cent. and the alloy may thereafter be again heated to not exceeding the precipitation temperature. In some cases cold working may be interposed between the quenching and reheating.
