Abstract
522,050. Alloys; annealing. HALL, H. C. Dec. 2,. 1938, No. 35234. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] An aluminium alloy, particularly for parts of aircraft and automobiles, contains 0.05-0.8 per cent. of silver, 1.7-3.2 per cent of copper, 0.2-0.8 per cent. of nickel, 0.15-0.6 per cent. of magnesium, 8.4-0.8 per cent. of silicon, and 0.25-1 per cent. of iron, with or without any of the following: up to 0.3 per cent. of beryllium, up to 0.75 per cent. of zinc, up to a total of 0.25 per. cent. of cobalt, manganese, molybdenum, chromium, tungsten, and vanadium, and up to a total of 0.2 per cent. of not more than 0.1 per cent. each of titanium, tin, cerium, lithium, boron, sodium, antimony, and bismuth. In making the alloy, silver may be added-as an aluminium alloy containing 20 per cent. of silver, and beryllium as an alloy of 47 per cent. of copper, 47 per cent. of aluminium, and 6 per cent. of beryllium. Heat-treatment may comprise heating the'casting to 510-540‹C. quenching in water, and reheating for half an hour at 190‹C. followed if desired by heating for a few hours at 160‹C.
