Abstract

522,008. Heat-treating copper alloys. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd. (Mallory, & Co., Inc., P. R.). Nov. 28, 1938, No. 34623. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] The physical properties of a copper-base alloy containing 0.5-3.4 per cent. of nickel or cobalt and 8.1-0.9 of silicon are improved by hea'ting a casting of the alloy which has been cooled to 400-600‹C. for a period of from 30 minutes to 24 hours. The alloy may also contain one or more of the metals, zinc, silver, tin, cadmium, magnesium, beryllium, aluminium, titanium, zirconium, chromium, manganese, iron, in an amount up to 1 per cent. but the copper contact of the alloy must be at least 93 per cent. According to the Provisional Specification the upper limit of the metal content is- 5 per cent. and of silicon 2 per cent.
