Abstract

A piston ring is made of an alloy of the composition .Al.5.-.15 per cent .Ni.2.-.8 per cent .Fe.2.-.8 per cent .Mn.0,25.-.8 per cent .Sn.0.-.0,25 per cent .Pb.0.-.0,25 per cent .Si.o.-.0,25 per cent .Cu the remainder,... the alloy having been hardened and tempered, for example by heating at 860 DEG C.-910 DEG C. for up to 2 hours and then reheating at 350 DEG C.-450 DEG C. and quenching. The ring may be chromium plated at least on its periphery. The Provisional Specification refers also to alloys in which the range of proportion of Mn is 0-8 per cent.
