Abstract

Austenitic steel components are produced by the method of the parent Specification utilizing alloys consisting of: C 0.35-0.55 per cent; Mn 0.5-10 per cent; Ni 7-50 per cent; Cr more than 5.5 per cent and up to 18 per cent; V 0.5-22 per cent; Fe, with impurities, the remainder. For optimum hardening effects, the V/C ratio is increased with Cr content and is, for example, 4 with 12-18 per cent Cr. The Provisional Specification also describes the aplication of the method of the parent Specification to alloys consisting of: C 0.25-0.55 per cent; Mn 0.5-10 per cent Ni 7-50 per cent; Cr 2.5-18 per cent; V 0.35-2.2 per cent; Fe substantially the remainder.
