Abstract
A hardened steel alloy having good impact strength has a composition, in per cent by weight, within the following range: C 0.2-0.8, Mn 0.5-2.5, Cr 0.5-1.5, Mo 0.25-1.5, Cu 0.65-4.0, Si 0-1.0, V 0-0.5, Fe and the usual impurities the remainder. The ratio of the proportion of Cu to the combined proportions of Cu and Mn, expressed as a percentage, ranging from 20 to 80 as the C content ranges from 0.2 to 0.45 and from 40 upwards as the C content ranges from 0.45 to 0.8.
