Abstract

Non-austentic alloy steels which are hardenable and have a good creep strength lie within the following range expressed in per cent by weight: C 0.05-0.3, Cr 9.0-20.0, W and/or Mo 1.5-10.0, Nb and/or Ta 0-2.0, V 0.1-2.0, N 0.001-0.04, B 0-0.5, Co 1.0-15.0, Ni 0.5-5.0, Fe, with impurities and deoxidizers the balance. Mn in the range 0.1-1.0 and/or Si in the range 0.1-1.0 may be added as deoxidizers. Cu in the range 0.5-5.0 may be added instead of or in addition to Ni. The alloys may be hardened by heating in the temperature range 1100 DEG C.-1250 DEG C. and quenching or air cooling, and may be tempered in the range 500 DEG C.-700 DEG C. The Provisional Specifications describe also alloys which may contain Ti up to 2.0, and in which V is an optional constituent up to 2.0, N being in the range 0.001-0.2. Specifications 638,110, 658,115, 730,272 and 733,146 are referred to.
