Abstract

High temperature brazing alloys have compositions, in per cent by weight, within the following range: Ni 35-91 (up to 90% of which can be replaced by Co), Mn 0.5-60, Si 1.0-8.0 and unavoidable impurities. One or more of the following elements may also be present: B 0-3.0, Cr 0-10.0, Fe 0-20.0, W 0-3.0, Mo 0-5.0, Ti 0-5.0, Nb 0-5.0, C 0-1.0, Ge 0-10.0, Cu 0-10.0, Al 0-2.0, Rare Earth metals 0-0.5. The alloys may be made by heating the Ni, or Ni and Co, at a high temperature to drive off occluded gases, preparing a batch of the heated metal with Mn, preferably in alternate layers, heating to 2000-2300 DEG F. till a homogenous melt is obtained, then adding other constituents and holding till a homogenous melt is obtained and finally adding Rare Earth metals, when used, shortly before pouring the melt.
