Abstract
An austenitic alloy suitable for high temperature use, particularly as boiler tubing and other parts required to have high strength when subjected to stress at high temperatures, has a composition within the following range: Cr, 13.5-18.0 per cent, Ni, 13.5-16.5 per cent; Mo, 1.0-2.0 per cent; W, 1.0-2.0 per cent; Nb and/or Ta, 0.5-1.5 per cent; C, 0.06-0.18 per cent; N, up to 0.15 per cent; Si, up to 2.75 per cent; Mn, up to 2.0 per cent; Fe and the usual impurities the balance. Cu up to 2.8 per cent and Zr up to 1.0 per cent may also be present. After fabrication the alloy may be solution treated at 2150-2250 DEG F. and then quenched.
