Abstract
A forgeable austenitic alloy steel, having good high temperature properties and being suitable for boiler superheater tubes has a composition within the following range: Cr 14.36-20.0 per cent; Ni., 12.0-18.0 per cent; C, 0.02-0.15 per cent; Mn 0.25-2.5 per cent; Si, 0.1-1.03 per cent; Ta with or without Nb, 1.0-3.5 per cent; Fe and impurities the balance. The alloy may also include Cu up to 3.0 per cent with or without Mo up to 3.0 per cent. The alloy may be solution treated at 2200 DEG F.-2300 DEG F. and aged at 1300 DEG F.-1500 DEG F.
