An austenitic stainless steel of free-flowing-scum characteristics at welding temperatures has the following composition in percentages by weight: C 0.4 to 1.5, Cr 12 to 30, Mn 5 to 20, Ni 0 to 6, N 0.1 to 0.6, Si 0.5 to 1.5, Fe the balance with impurities. Specifications 713,162 and 744,599 are referred to.
