Abstract

A ferritic type welding wire has a composition within the following range .C.0.04-0.08 per cent .Mn.1.2-1.5 per cent .Si.0.3-0.6 per cent .Ni.1.1-1.3 per cent .V.0.1-0.2 per cent Fe and impurities the remainder. The alloy may also contain as residual elements up to 0.2 per cent of Cr and Ti and up to 0.2 per cent of Cu, Sn and Pb. S may be present up to 0.025 per cent and P up to 0.025 per cent and Al, e.g. 0.006 per cent. The workpiece to be welded may contain less than 0.3 per cent C and 2.0-5.0 per cent of Mo, Si, Cr, Ni and Mn, remainder Fe which may contain up to 0.4 per cent Cu and/or traces of impurities and other elements such as Sn, Pb, B, Al, V and Ti. Thus for example the workpiece may contain .C.0.15-0.3 per cent .Mn.0.8-1.5 per cent .Si.0.22-0.7 per cent .Cr.0.04-0.95 per cent .Ni.0.05-1.0 per cent .Mo.0.07-0.6 per cent Specification 687,666 [Group XXII] is referred to
