Abstract
An iron alloy for an electrode or filler rod for welding carbon steels in a protective gas consists of: .C.0.08-0.15%, .Mn.1.0-1.5%, .Si more than.0.65-1.0%, .Ti.0.10-0.25%, .Al.0.2-0.5%, .P or S.up to 0.03% each, with or without .Cr.0.1-0.15%, and/or one or more of V, Mo, Ni, Ta/Nb, B, alkaline earth metals and/or rare earth metals in a total of up to 2.5%, balance iron and impurities. Any Ti content in excess of 0.10% may be replaced by an equal amount of Zr. Prior art alloys for filler rods are disclosed consisting of: .C.0.08-0.15%, .Mn.1.0-1.2%, .Si.0.2-0.5%, .Ti.0.08-0.25%, .Al.0.01-0.05%, .P or S.up to 0.03% each, with or without .Cr.0.1-0.15%, balance iron and impurities
