Abstract
A low alloy steel wire for welding low alloy, high strength steels, contains .Mn.1.2-1.8% .Ni.0.5-1.2% .Mo.0.1-0.5% .Cu.0.4-1.0% .Cr.up to a maximum of 0.15% .Si.up to a maximum of 0.8% .C.up to a maximum of 0.15% .P.up to a maximum of 0.015% .S.up to a maximum of 0.015% plus a deoxidizing agent comprising one or more of Zr, Ti, Al, Mg, Ca, in an amount of 0.03-0.61%, the Al content not exceeding 0.1%, the balance of the alloy being iron. An anti-oxidation coating of copper may be added to the wire up to 0.3% of the weight of the wire but the total of copper in the wire and in the coating should not exceed 1.2%. Examples of weld deposits are described and these may be subjected to a heat treatment.
