Abstract

A heat-resisting austenitic steel consists of: 0.05-0.45 per cent C; 16-27 per cent Cr; 10-30 per cent Ni; 6-8 per cent in total of Co and Mn; 6-8 per cent in total of Mo, W and Nb and/or Ta; the balance Fe and impurities; the Co and Mn being present in approximately equal amounts (i.e. within \sB 0.5 per cent of exact equality) and the Mo, W and Nb and/or Ta being present in the relative proportions (3\sB 0.8) : (2\sB0.8) : (1\sB0.8). Si up to 2 per cent, B up to 1 per cent and nitrogen up to 0.2 per cent may also be present in the steel.
