Abstract
552,786. Tool-holders. BOWEN, H. W. D. Jan. 16, 1942, No. 701. [Class 83 (iii)] A roller box tool for a lathe comprises a shank 1 mountable in a turret or tailstock and connected by a cross piece 2 to two pillar members 3, 4, on opposite sides of the work axis, one pillar carrying the cutting tool and the other a pair of finely-adjustable work-engaging rollers. The work may pass into a passage 5 in the shank and the part 2. A tool block 7 fitting on the pillar 3 is secured thereto by a recessed bolt 11 and nut 12. A tool-supporting pad 6 recessed to fit over the pillar has a surface 6a to which the tool is clamped by screws 8 passing through the block, these screws also serving to adjust the tool pad tound the pillar and to clamp it thereto. The pillar 4 carries a housing 13 with a circular head which accommodates a pair of segmental members 14 carrying rollers 15. The rollers are adjusted by screws 18 and clamped by a disc 16 and bolt 17.
