Abstract
678,247. Drilling-machines; lathes. WOLF ELECTRIC TOOLS, Ltd., and GUBBINS, C. H. Aug. 8, 1950, No. 19715/50. Class 83 (iii). [Also in Group XXIII] Apparatus for adapting a portable powerdriven hand tool 1 for other uses comprises a cradle 28 for holding the tool and a bar 49 with their axes parallel, flanges 31 on the cradle being provided for attachment to a bench &c., and accessories for attachment to the bar or tool, the accessories including a tailstock 55, a saw-table 105, or a base-plate 88. An electric hand drill 1 has a recess 6 and a collar 5 to be engaged respectively by a clamping screw 35 and a yoke 43 on the cradle 28. The cradle is bored to receive the bar 49 to which it is clamped by a recessed bolt 52, Fig. 14. To use the tool as a wood-turning lathe, an angularly and vertically adjustable rest 56 and the tailstock 55 are also clamped to the bar 49 by bolts 52. The tailstock has a centre 75 screwed into a plunger 67 which is adjusted by a slotted lever 70 and clamped by a wing-nut 73. A driving-centre 84 is clamped in the chuck 10. As a faceturning lathe, the plate 88, Fig. 8, is fitted in place of the chuck 10 and the rest 56 is readjusted. As a drilling-machine, the tailstock 55, Fig. 8, is turned on to its back and its centre replaced by the plate 88. A drill 87 is fitted in the chuck 10 which is re-attached. The lever 70 then acts as a work-feeding means. As a wood-sawing machine, the table 105, Fig. 10, with an adjustable work-guide 125, is fitted. The table also carries saw-guards 117, 118. A modified tailstock 89 replaces the stock 55. A grinding-wheel or buff &c. may also be fitted in the chuck 10. The chuck 10, centre 75 and plate 88 are completely interchangeable, e.g. the chuck 10 may be attached to the plunger 67. Chucks.-The chuck 10 comprises three jaws 19 held against a bevelled closing ring 17 by springs 20. A tapered screw 24 clamps the jaws firmly about the tool.
