Abstract
609,161. Boring-bar machines. WINCANTON TRANSPORT & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd.; and STEVENS, H. C. March 7, 1946, No. 7146. [Class 83 (iii)] A machine for boring main-bearings in crank-cases or cylinder blocks comprises a bed having vertical guides at one end for a bracket carrying a headstook and motor slidably mounted thereon, together with columns adjustably mounted on the bed for supporting the boring-bar and parallel blocks for supporting the work and clamps for steadying and securing it. The bed 1 carries the bracket 7 on guides 5. The motor 12 and. headstock 13 are fed by means of a screw 27 which may be driven by the hand wheel 26, or automatically by a pawl and ratchet 32. The boring-bar 19 is supported at intervals by columns 42. The work 57 is supported on parallels 60 and clamped by straps 65. Chucks.-The boring-bar is clamped in a back-closing chuck in which the jaws are'forced into a taper socket in the end of this spindle by a hand wheel 20 having a coned surface that engages the correspondingly formed ends 25, Fig. 3 (not shown), of the jaws.
