Abstract

588,052. Turning; tool-holders. BALMFORTH, J. L. Dec. 8, 1944, No. 24574. [Class 83 (iii)] A tool-holder for lathes is of the kind provided with a stop adapted to engage the work to be cut and to be adjustable angularly and slidably relative to the cutting tool so that the depth of cut is limited by engagement of the stop against the work and is characterized in that the stop is formed as a bar slidably adjustable in a channel in the head of a grip member rotatably mounted in the hool-holder. The tool-holder 1 is provided with a recess 3 having a bevelled lower edge corresponding with a similar edge on the tool in which a tool 6 is clamped by a bolt 5 with a bevelled head 8. Arranged above the tool on an extension of the holder 1 is a disc 10 having an integral threaded stem 11 which may be clamped to the holder by a nut 12. An inwardly facing slot in the disc carries the stop-bar 14 which may be adjusted to engage the work just ahead of the cutting portion 6a of the tool. The workengaging end of the stop-bar may be fitted with a wheel, roller, shoe or other device and the bar may be arranged for axial screwadjustment.
