Lathe or like tool has chip - breaking member 4 of hard material arranged underneath and at the tip of a clamping- shoe 3. The latter holds the cutting - tip (highspeed steel, hard metal alloy or ceramic material) on a carrying plate 2 in a recess of the tool body 10. The clamping bolt 5 passes through an elongated hole 3<SP>1</SP> in the shoe 3 so that the shoe and chip-breaker may be adjusted with respect to the cutting-tip by means of a screw 6 engaging threaded parts of the shoe and holder.
