[Class 83 (iii)] A lathe, particularly for wood turning, has a headstock-carrying frame in the form of a pillar of box-like construction and a bed constituted by a bracket or arm swinging on a vertical axis adjacent one side of the pillar. The bed A is pivoted at B to the main frame S and may be locked in any angular position by a clamp G co-acting with a quadrant H. The face plate C is driven from a motor T controlled by switch gear V. A T-rest D may be clamped at E in the required vertical position and may also be secured in any position along the bed by a clamp F. For turning between centres a tailstock may be mounted on the bed and the T-rest has a compound adjustment. By substituting a tool L for the tailstock centre and swinging the bed by hand spherical work M, Fig. 3, may be turned. Drilling may be performed by mounting a drill in the tailstock. In another modification, Fig, 4, the work may be mounted on a tiltable table N fitted with an angularly adjustable fence and a sanding disc may be fixed to the face plate P. The angular adjustment of the bed is employed to locate the work at the best position on the sanding disc.
