Abstract

534,832. Alloys; annealing. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Sept. 14,1939, No. 25829. Convention date, Sept. 14, 1938. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Electric contact members are made of material consisting of 45-75 per cent. of tungsten or molybdenum powder impregnated with 25-55 per cent. of an alloy of silver with 2-10 per cent. of copper. The material may be made by mixing the refractory metal powder with an organic binder such as shellac and alcohol which is driven off by heating at about 1000‹C. leaving a porous mass which is afterwards impregnated with the molten silver-copper alloy. The contact members may be heat-treated by quenching from 600- 775‹C. and reheating at 175-300‹C, whereby the impregnating alloy is hardened.
