Abstract
534,797. Alloys. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd. (Mallory & Co., Inc., P.R.). Dec. 30, 1939, No. 33092. [Class 82 (i)] Electric contacts are made of alloys consisting of silver with up to 50 per cent. of boron, with or without one or more other elements such as iron, nickel, cobalt, copper, gold, platinum, palladium, cadmium, zinc, magnesium, tin, manganese and silicon. For example, in addition to silver there may be 1-10 per cent. of boron ; or 1-5 per cent. of boron and 5-50 per cent. of iron, nickel, or cobalt; or 1-15 per cent. of boron and 0.1-30 per cent. of copper, gold, platinum, palladium, cadmium, zinc, manganese, magnesium, or tin ; or 2-25 per cent. of boron and 0.1-5 per cent. silicon. The alloys may be made by mixing powders of silver and boron, pressing and sintering, followed if desired by repressing or working. Where addition constituents are used they may be first alloyed with silver and then powdered and mixed with boron powder, or they may be added as powder to the silver and boron powders.
