Abstract
531,235. Alloys; cementation. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd. (Mallory & Co., Inc., P. R.). July 15, 1939, No. 20604. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] [Also in Group III] Electric contacts, particularly for ignition systems are made of tungsten containing up to 1 per cent. of boron. Tungsten with a boron content of for example 0.5 per cent. may be made from a mixture of the powders by ball milling, pressing, heating, and swaging into rods from which the contact discs are cut; or tungsten contacts may be heated to 1200-1500‹C. in an atmosphere of a mixure of hydrogen and boron hydride made by heating magnesium powder with boron oxide in hydrogen and decomposing the resulting magnesium boride with hydrochloric acid diluted with hydrogen at 50‹C. Small quantities of other elements such as 1 per cent. of molybdenum may also be present.
