Abstract

224,230. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Fuller, T. S.). Oct. 30, 1923, [Convention date]. Contacts for ignition interrupters &c. consist of a tip 2 of refractory material secured to a support 3 with an interposed base 1 of silvercopper alloy which acts as a brazing material. The tip 2 is made, of a refractory material such as tungsten or molybdenum and the support 3 ordinarily consists of soft steel, but may be of higher conductivity metal such as copper or phosphorbronze. The contact parts are assembled in a support, preferably of graphite in a hydrogenfilled furnace, and heated to the melting point of the brazing material which readily wets the tip 2 and support 3. If any excess of the silvercopper alloy remains on the face or side of the contact tip no detrimental arcing occurs in use as would be the case if copper only were used as the brazing material. The alloy may contain from 15 to 28 per cent of copper, the lower content being preferred.
