Abstract
Electrical contacts and electrodes particularly for sparking plugs are made from an alloy of aluminium (0,1 to 8 per cent) with nickel, or nickel and one or more of the metals, chromium, manganese or iron. A low nickel content e.g. 15 per cent should correspond with a low aluminium content, e.g. 4 per cent. Suitable proportions are nickel 93 per cent, manganese 4 per cent, aluminium 3 per cent; and nickel 77 per cent, chromium 20 per cent, aluminium 3 per cent. Alloys containing 80 per cent iron may be used, the aluminium in the case of ferrous alloys being partly replaced by silicon. Small quantities of molybdenum, titanium, zirconium, tungsten, vanadium, tantalum, copper, beryllium, carbon, calcium, barium, strontium and lithium may be used. The alloys may also contain up to 0,25 per cent of carbon.
