Abstract

A cast-iron alloy for chill casting comprises 2-4 per cent of carbon, 2,5-3,5 per cent of silicon and over 8 per cent of manganese, with or without nickel. The alloy may also contain up to 2 per cent of copper, tungsten, molybdenum, titanium, vanadium, and up to 1 per cent of chromium. Examples are given of alloys containing specified proportions of some of these elements together with sulphur and phosphorus.
