Alloys.-A heat-resisting alloy contains not less than 35 per cent of iron, 10-15 per cent of aluminium, and not less than 30 per cent of nickel, and may contain in addition 5 per cent or less of another metal such as chromium, molybdenum, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, or uranium, the carbon, silicon, sulphur, and phosphorous being low. The alloy is preferably made in a basic lined electric furnace, the molten aluminium, and the alloy after the addition of the aluminium, being covered with a layer of cryolite or cryolite and lime to prevent oxidation.
