Abstract

152,371. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). June 5, 1918. Alloys.-Niobium is incorporated in steel alloys, particularly in combination with one or more other metals such as tantalum, tungbsen, vanadium, chromium, molybdenum or uranium. Niobium or niobium and tantalum, or a ferro-alloy of niobium or of both metals, may be added directly to a steel bath. or the desired percentages of tungsten, molybdenum, chromium and vanadium may be incorporated in the ferro-alloy; or niobium or niobium and tantalum with or without other metals may be reduced from ores or concentrates in the presence of iron. The alloys may contain about 3-6 per cent of niobium and 6-10 per cent of tungsten, or 2-4 per cent of niobium, 3-6 per cent of tantalum, and 4-8 per cent of tungsten.
