Abstract
216,389. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). July 27, 1923. Alloys.-Iron alloys contain 25-40 per cent of nickel, 7-9 per cent of aluminium, and 7-15 per cent of chromium, with or without the addition of about 1 per cent of a grain refining material such as titanium or manganese, or of both. A preferred composition is 30 per cent of nickel, 8 per cent of aluminium, and 10 per cent of chromium. The iron base may be steel containing 0.02 per cent or less of carbon, 0.04 per cent or less of sulphur, 0.03 per cent or less of phosphorus, and 0.15 per cent of silicon. The alloy is preferably made in a basic lined electric furnace, the iron, nickel, and chromium being melted in the furnace and tapped on to the aluminium.
