Abstract

Aluminium alloys substantially free from copper contain 0.75-1.5 per cent of magnesium and 0.25-0.75 per cent of boron, with or without 0.25-5 per cent in all of one or more of the metals vanadium, tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, and cobalt. The alloys preferably contain no substantial amounts of silicon and iron. In making the alloys, magnesium may be added as metal and boron as oxide to molten aluminium covered with charcoal. The other metals may be added as such or as oxides.
