Abstract
A light hard alloy, suitable for die or sand casting, contains 1-3,5 per cent of copper 0,1-1,5 per cent of iron, 0,1-1,5 per cent of silicon, 35-65 per cent of aluminium, a residuum of cleansing elements up to 1 per cent, and the remainder zinc. For cleansing, manganese, magnesium, titanium, molybdenum, vanadium, or sodium may be used, but preferably two or more. To obtain the iron content commercial aluminium containing up to 1,5 per cent of iron, or iron alloyed with aluminium may be used. Copper is added as a copper aluminium alloy containing about 20 per cent of copper. Silicon is added as commercial aluminium and a silicon aluminium alloy having 14 per cent of silicon. Magnesium and sodium for cleansing are added as metal, the residuum of magnesium left in the alloy not exceeding 0,1 per cent, while manganese, molybdenum, and vanadium are added as alloys of the respective metal with aluminium. Titanium is added as an aluminium alloy containing about 5 per cent of titanium and 10 per cent of copper. Zinc is added last.
