Abstract

Aluminium alloys containing 3-5 per cent of copper, 1-1,5 per cent of manganese, 0,6-1 per cent of magnesium, and 0,7-1,3 per cent of silicon, after working are quenched from 485-505 DEG C., preferably 490 DEG C., and are thereafter reheated, before or after agehardening, at 120-220 DEG C., for a period of up to 48 hours, for example, at 155 DEG C. for 12 hours. A preferred composition contains 4,37 per cent of copper, 1,21 per cent of manganese, 0,7 per cent of magnesium, and 1,23 per cent of silicon. Up to 0,7 per cent of iron may be present.
