Abstract

Aluminium alloys containing 1,5-3 per cent of copper, 0,5-2,5 per cent of nickel, 0,5-2,5 per cent of iron, 0,5-2 per cent of magnesium, and 0,25-1 per cent of silicon, are made without the addition at any stage of the manufacture, of any titanium, manganese, chromium, or sodium. The alloys may be made by the addition to molten aluminium of aluminium alloys rich in one or more of the other metals, magnesium being added last as metal. The alloys may be quenched from about 510 DEG C. and reheated at about 175 DEG C. for some time, for example about 15 hours, and hot or cold working may be applied before the heat treatment.
