Abstract

An aluminium alloy contains up to 3 per cent of magnesium, one tenth to one eighth as much chromium, and not more than 0,35 per cent of impurities. In making the alloy, the chromium may be added to molten aluminium in the form of an aluminium-chromium alloy containing 2-12 per cent of chromium, and the magnesium as metal. The ingots or billets may be heated at 500-540 DEG C. for 15 hours or less, and may be annealed at about 350 DEG C., followed if desired by cold working to produce any required hardness of temper, reductions of 15, 37,5 and 70 per cent being specified in particular examples.
