Abstract

1,055,687. Making aluminium alloy strip. SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd. Aug. 27, 1965 [Aug. 27, 1964]. No. 36958/65. Headings B3A and B3V. An aluminium based alloy containing 0À3- 1.5% magnesium, 0À2-1À6% silicon and less than 1% copper is homogenized and rolled while still hot and in the homogenized state at a temperature above 350‹ C. It is quenched to at least 200‹ C. in less than two minutes, cold rolled with a reduction of at least 20% and solution heated for less than 1 minute, preferably less than 30 seconds, in a continuous furnace and finally quenched. If desired the hotrolled strip may-be coiled and stored before being cold rolled. Incidental elements which may be present in the alloy include 1% max. chromium, 0.5% max. iron, 0.2% max. titanium and 0.2% zinc. Alternatively the alloy may contain 3À5-5% zinc and 0À5-1À5% magnesium the balance apart from incidental elements and impurities being aluminium.
