1,225,283. Altering physical properties; working at specified temperatures. OLIN CORP. 23 May, 1969 [26 June, 1967], No. 47546/69. Divided out of 1,225,282. Heading B3V. [Also in Division C7] A copper-base alloy containing 1-3À5% by weight of iron and optionally 0À01-0À5% each of one or more of silicon, phosphorus, zinc, manganese, aluminium, tin, nickel, calcium, titanium, chromium, tungsten or vanadium is hot worked at 800-1050‹ C., held at 400- 550‹ C. for at least 30 minutes and cold-worked with at least 30% reduction. The hot-working may be effected at a lower temperature if it is followed by heating in the range 800-1050‹ C. for at least 15 minutes. Preferably after the treatment at 400-550‹ C. the alloy is cooled at less than 200‹ C. per hour to 350‹ C. or below. Working may be effected by rolling, forging, extrusion, or billet piercing.
