Abstract

1,225,282. Altering physical properties; working at specified temperatures. OLIN CORP. 23 May, 1968 [26 June, 1967], No. 24764/68. Heading B3V. [Also in Division C7] Copper-base alloys containing 1 to 3À5% by weight of iron and optionally 0À01 to 0À5% each of one or more of silicon, phosphorus, zinc, manganese, tin, aluminium, nickel, calcium, titanium, chromium, tungsten or vanadium are hot-worked at 800-1050‹ C., annealed at 400- 650‹ C. for at least 30 minutes, cold worked to at least 30% reduction and annealed at 400- 550‹ C. for at least 5 seconds. The cold working and annealing steps may be repeated, while an additional cold-working step may be interposed immediately after hot working. The latter may be carried out at a lower temperature than stated above if it is preceded or followed by a heattreatment in the range 800-1050‹ C. Preferably after each anneal the alloy is cooled at less than 200‹ C. per hour to a temperature of 350‹ C. or below. The alloy is used for electrical conductors.
