Abstract

1,234,866. 866. Heat-treating aluminium alloys. OLIN CORP. July 25, 1969 [Oct.30, 1968], No.37473/69. Heading C7A. To improve their stress-corrosion resistance alloys containing in percentage by weight:- Mg 3 - 10 and optionally one or more of B 0À001 - 0À35 Cr 0À05 - 0À3 In 0À002 - 0À8 Ga 0À01 - 0À5 Cd 0À03 - 0À5 Th 0À005 - 0À35 Misch metal 0À005 - 0À3 Te 0À005 - 0À3 Li 0À01 - 0À8 Ge 0À01 - 0À55 Co 0À1 - 0À8 Cu 0 - 0À6 Together with, as impurities Fe - 0À5 Si - 0À5 Mn - 0À35 Zn - 0À2 Ti - 0À15 Be - 0À02 other elements - 0À2 are hot or cold worked up to 95% reduction, heated at not more than 50‹F. per hour to 600‹-800‹F. held at that temperature for 5 minutes to 24 hours, and cooled at not more than 500‹ F. per hour to 350‹ F. or below. The alloy may then be cold worked and stabilized at 225‹-375‹ F. for 1 to 24 hours.
