Abstract

An annealed alloy comprises .Cr.14-30% .Fe.0 to 50% .Al.0.003-0.05% .Ti.0.005-0.15% .Si.0.01-0.3% .C.0.01-0.15% the balance, apart from impurities such as Mn preferably no more than 2%, S and P, being nickel in an amount of at least 30%. Examples contain up to 0.007% of boron and up to 2.2% of manganese. An alloy containing more than 0.03% carbon must have a hardness and grain size represented by a point within the shaded area of Figs.1 or 2 (not shown). Annealing may be carried out at 850-1150 DEG C. with water quenching or the alloy may be sensitized at 700 DEG C. followed by air cooling and the alloy may be cold rolled.
