Abstract

1,183,568. Making wire; working at specified temperature. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORP. 10 Sept., 1968 [1 July, 1968], No. 43018/68. Addition to 1,102,822. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division C7] An aluminium-base alloy containing in percentage by weight Si 0À2-1À3 Mg 0À3-1À4 and optionally Fe -1 Cu -1 Mn -0À8 Cr -0À35 Zn -0À5 B 0À001-0À05 Ti -0À2 other impurity elements f #-0À05 each #-0À15 total is held at 850-950‹ F. for at least 5 minutes, hot rolled with a cooling rate during rolling of greater than 100‹ F./min. and subjected within 20 seconds to a further cooling to below 250‹ C. at a rate exceeding 100‹ F./min. The alloy may then be cold-drawn with at least 30% reduction in cross-section and finally heated at 250-450‹ F. for at least 15 minutes. Use of the alloy in the form of wire for electrical conductors is referred to.
