Abstract

1342620 Producing steel strip FRIED KRUPP HUTTENWERKE AG 23 Dec 1971 [24 Dec 1970] 60161/71 Heading C7A A stainless semi-ferritic steel, suitable for forming cold strip comprises in weight per cent:- the total of phosphorus and arsenic being at least 0À05% the balance being iron and compatible impurity. This steel which contains 10 to 40% austenite, is allowed to cool from the solidus temperature, held at 700 to 780‹ C for 2 to 10 hours to transform the austenite to ferrite and carbide, and then heated to a temperature just below Ac 1 , (800-950‹ C), rolled at that temperature, air cooled, and cold-rolled to the required thickness. The cycle of heat treatment can also be effected on an ingot which has been hot-rolled in a cogging mill. The steps of transforming from austenite to ferrite, and hot-rolling below Ac 1 temperature may be separated by an optional cooling step, e.g. to room temperature.
