Abstract
1322135 Heat treating stainless steel USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 20 Sept 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 43774/71 Heading C7A Stainless steel containing in percentage by weight. C up to 0À15 Mn up to 1 Si up to 1 Cr 16 - 18 Fe and impurities balance is hot rolled at 1850-1950F. to a thickness of 0À1 to 0À25 inch, and then box annealed at 1750- 1900F. for at least 1 hour followed by 1450- 1500F. for at least 2 hours. It is then furnace cooled, cold rolled with 35-75% reduction and continuously annealed at 1400-1500F. The cold working and annealing steps may be repeated as necessary, while the steel may be cooled to ambient temperature between the two box annealing stages. Preferably box annealing is carried out in a non-oxidising nitrogen free atmosphere.
